Young Irish woman rescued after being dragged by rip current in Ílhavo
Another young man, who was also in difficulties, "managed to get out of the water on his own".

A 19-year-old Irish woman was rescued on Monday afternoon after being dragged by a rip current on the beach of Costa Nova, in the municipality of Ílhavo.
“The alert was received at 5:39 pm, through a local who was at the scene, reporting the existence of two people in distress in the water”, detailed the National Maritime Authority, in a statement.
Elements of the Local Command of the Maritime Police of Aveiro and crew members of the Aveiro Lifeboat Station were mobilized to the scene, as well as elements of the Volunteer Firefighters of Ílhavo, who verified that “one of the young people managed to get out of the water on his own”.
However, the girl was “in distress in the water”, so she was rescued by the elements of the Maritime Police and taken to the dock of the Port Captaincy of Aveiro.
The victim showed signs of exhaustion and hypothermia, having been assisted by the elements of the Volunteer Firefighters of Ílhavo and, later, transported to a hospital unit.
The Local Command of the Maritime Police of Aveiro took charge of the occurrence.
