On Monday, the Volunteer Firefighters of the municipality of Espinho, in Almada, in the district of Aveiro, rescued a Vietnamese pig "that had been seen apparently disoriented/apathetic".

"Today we were called for an animal rescue, which despite being out of our usual scope, was promptly carried out. It was a Vietnamese pig that had been seen apparently disoriented/apathetic, several times, by locals in a populated area", writes the corporation, on its Instagram page.

The officials also explain that "despite the existence of a nearby rural area, it was not possible to determine if it was wild or domesticated".

The animal was left in the care of the Municipal Veterinary Medical Service "which will take care of its referral and, if necessary, provide care", states the note.

The firefighters end by adding that "Vietnamese pigs have a challenging disposition and tremendous strength". "We found out today!", they add.
