According to the Regional Command of the Public Security Police (PSP), the suspect will have carried out the assaults "in the early hours of the morning" in the parishes of Livramento, Fajã de Baixo and Ponta Delgada, on the island of São Miguel. On at least two occasions, he will have scaled the walls of houses to "seize several valuable objects", says the police. The evidence collected by the PSP investigators allowed "to realize that the defendant will have been responsible for the practice of four qualified theft crimes, two qualified theft crimes in attempted form and also a simple theft crime", explains the PSP in a press release. The PSP also adds that it was possible to collect several pieces of evidence that indicate the suspect not only in the practice of a crime of theft of a vehicle, in the parish of Fajã de Baixo, but also of an assault on a house, whose owners are people "very close" to the defendant. The suspect was arrested "outside of flagrante delicto, as a matter of urgency, by order of the police authority", given the "increase in crimes committed" in the space of just two months and given the increase in violence used, indicates the PSP. The PSP in the Azores also states that the defendant, "already with a criminal record related to the crime under investigation", was left with the most serious measure of coercion, preventive detention, after having been present at the first judicial interrogation.
