ERC launches awareness campaign for disinformation risks
The Regulatory Authority for the Social Communication (ERC) announced today the launch of a set of communication and literacy initiatives, within the scope of the European elections, to raise awareness among citizens of the need to protect themselves from disinformation.

"One of the ongoing actions is the broadcasting on television of a video 'spot' to raise awareness of the risks of disinformation and information manipulation", says the ERC, in a statement.
"This is a joint campaign by the European Regulators Group for Audiovisual Media Services (ERGA), with recommendations on ways to combat disinformation and protect democratic values. The ERC has the collaboration of national television operators in the dissemination of the campaign", adds the regulator.
In parallel, the ERC "produced and made available on its institutional website, for 'download' and sharing, informative materials adjusted to audiences of different ages, with concrete suggestions on how to defend themselves from false or manipulated narratives that circulate in the public space with the intention of influencing".
These materials "will also be sent by the regulator to schools, consumer associations and other organisations oriented towards citizen service".
With this new campaign, the ERC "intends to intensify its intervention in improving the media literacy levels of Portuguese citizens, with a particular focus on the electoral period, and to reinforce the commitment to ensure that the public space is not contaminated by disinformation, in line with the strategic axes proposed by the regulator for the 2023-2028 mandate", it concludes.
The European elections were scheduled for July 9th.
