In a statement, the UA highlights that Sérgio Godinho was "the Portuguese musician who most influenced different generations of other songwriters in the last 50 years of musical life in Portugal", adding that "the word is, perhaps, the greatest force" of his work, whether in its written, spoken or sung version.

"His versatility is demonstrated in the multiple partnerships he establishes with national and foreign singers, collaborating and co-authoring works with great musicians from Brazil and Portuguese-speaking African countries, with whom he shared so many stages and so many coincidences, giving History different ways of singing the language, in a consensual coexistence", can be read in the dispatch signed by the rector of the UA, Paulo Jorge Ferreira.

Sérgio Godinho was born in Porto on August 31, 1945 and, this year, is celebrating 53 years of artistic career, almost as many as the UA, which this year celebrates 50 years of existence.

Since his first album, he has circulated between the "singer-songwriter with a guitar on his back" to the soloist of the Symphonic Orchestra, going through rock, fado and even choro or Brazilian popular music.

Throughout his 53-year career, he has released 20 studio albums, eight live albums, seven albums in collaboration with other musicians, eight compilations, eight collective records where he shares the album with other singer-songwriters, 13 guest appearances on albums by other authors and 11 soundtracks for films and series, for a total of 75 phonographic publications.

Sérgio Godinho is also the author of 15 books, screenwriter (seven), director (three) and has 37 participations as an actor, in a stylistic spectrum that ranges from musical theater to cinema.
