Marcelo says that teachers "deserve" to recover their time of service
The President of the Republic considered today that the agreement reached between the National Education Federation (FNE) and the Government for the recovery of the teachers' service time in four years "is pacifying" and that the teachers deserve it.

"I already knew about this very recent news and I think it is an issue that is an electoral commitment and that teachers deserve, and it is a peacemaker for the next school year", considered Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, who was speaking to journalists on the sidelines of the commemorations of the 30th anniversary of the Arpad Szenes - Vieira da Silva Museum, in Lisbon.
The head of state was questioned about the fact that the National Federation of Education (FNE) and the Government today reached an agreement for the recovery of service time frozen during the 'Troika', which will be returned over four years.
Asked if he is concerned about the start of the next school year, the President of the Republic replied that he is not.
"I am not worried but I think it is important to resolve this issue, and the sooner the better, because then there are other tasks for the Government", he added.
According to the terms defined between the guardianship and the trade union federation, the six years, six months and 23 days will be accounted for over four years: 50% in 2024 and 2025 and the rest in 2026 and 2027.
"With a duration of two years and 10 months, the entire frozen service time will be recovered", stressed Pedro Barreiros, because the process starts on September 1, 2024 and will be completed on July 1, 2027.
After the meeting with the FNE, which lasted for more than three hours, the MECI will also receive, in the afternoon, the FENEI, SIPE, FEPECI, SPLIU, SNPL, ASPL, SIPPEB, SEPLEU, Pró-Ordem and Stop.
The last day of meetings ends with the National Federation of Teachers (Fenprof), whose meeting is scheduled for 5:30 pm.
