In a statement, the IPST announced that "1,066 organs were collected, 172 more than in 2022, 963 organs were transplanted, 128 more than in 2022, and 68 more than in 2017, which had been the best year so far in transplant activity".
"This significant growth clearly demonstrates the commitment and dedication of all medical teams, health professionals and organisations involved in this process", stresses the IPST.
The Institute also highlights the 15.3% increase in the transplant rate, emphasising pancreatic, kidney and lung transplants, with the latter two reaching their highest historical activity level.
Noting "remarkable results" in 2023, the institute also recalls that cornea collection and transplantation increased by 61.5% and 69.7%, respectively.
The IPST recalls the importance of collaboration between hospitals, health professionals, society in general and the security and military forces, considering that the results presented today "are the result of a collective effort and the generosity of donors and their families".
