Searches in illegal home in Gaia for suspected elder abuse
An unlicensed nursing home in Vila Nova de Gaia was today the target of searches, being suspected of crimes of mistreatment against the elderly, revealed the Public Prosecutor's Office (MP).

In the note published on the 'site' of the MP, it reads that "searches were made in a nursing home, without a license for use, located in the area of Vila Nova de Gaia, and access to an 'annex' was denied to the inspectors of the Social Security's Northern Inspection Unit".
"The process originated from an anonymous complaint and the facts are likely to constitute crimes of mistreatment against the elderly", adds the publication.
The MP adds that these searches are carried out by the PSP, with the participation of doctors from the National Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences and elements of the Social Security Institute.
The investigation is led by the Central Department of Investigation and Criminal Action and is subject to secrecy of justice, concludes the publication.
