French fugitive in hiding in Lisbon? PSP received a tip

Mohamed Amra is being sought internationally after he escaped from French authorities in an attack on the prison van in which he was being transported, during which two prison guards were killed.

French fugitive in hiding in Lisbon? PSP received a tip

The Public Security Police (PSP) received a report indicating that Mohamed Amra, a dangerous French inmate who escaped from prison during an ambush carried out by an armed group that murdered two prison guards last week, may be hiding in Lisbon.

A PSP source confirmed to Notícias ao Minuto that they received the report last Monday and that "the information was passed on to the police officers". However, "there is nothing concrete so far".

According to the Correio da Manhã, which broke the news, the fugitive, known as 'The Fly', may be hiding among the homeless Arab community at the Gare do Oriente station in Parque das Nações. However, after going to the site to verify the report, they found nothing to corroborate it.

The PSP also finds it "strange" that a man like Mohamed Amra, 30, who belongs to a criminal group with significant financial resources, would be hiding among the homeless.

It should be noted that Mohamed Amra is the target of an arrest warrant issued by the French authorities and even Interpol has issued an international "red notice" asking "international forces around the world" to try to locate and detain him "provisionally for subsequent extradition".

'The Fly' has been at large since 14 May, the day he managed to escape from the custody of the French authorities after the van in which he was being transported was deliberately ambushed in the Eure region by four armed men who killed two prison guards and seriously injured three others.

At just 30 years old, the man born in 1994 already has 13 convictions, the first of which was in 2009, when he was just 15 years old. Most of them relate to property crimes, namely robberies, but his 'curriculum' also includes the crimes of possession of a prohibited weapon and attempted murder.

In September 2023, he was indicted for a murder committed by an "organised gang", as well as for kidnapping and criminal association, among other crimes.
