The Food and Economic Safety Authority (ASAE) has instituted six administrative offense proceedings, as part of an inspection operation called Operation Navigate. The action, which took place nationwide, was aimed at economic operators with maritime-tourism activity.

It was also determined the immediate suspension of activity of a vessel, for not having the National Registry of Tourist Entertainment Agents (RNAAT), nor mandatory civil liability insurance.

In a statement, ASAE explained that the operation focused on the "verification of compliance with the mandatory requirements for the exercise of the activity" and the "operating conditions of the vessels used for recreational, sports or cultural leisure activities, in aquatic environment".

The main offenses were "the lack of RNAAT integrated in the National Tourism Registry, the lack of mandatory insurance, the lack of indication of RNAAT in documentation" and "the lack of notice of restrictions on alcoholic beverages on board vessels".

During the action 105 economic operators were inspected, both on land and in water. Approaches were made to vessels in service on the Tagus River, Sado River and Ria Formosa.

Inspections were also carried out in the digital environment, namely on websites, "in the context of offering tourist entertainment services".

The operation had the collaboration of the Maritime Police in the actions carried out in the aquatic environment, namely in the Tagus River, Sado River and Ria Formosa.

"ASAE will continue to develop inspection actions, within the scope of its competences, throughout the national territory, in favor of healthy and fair competition between economic operators and in safeguarding the interests of consumers, given the growing demand for tourist activities in Portugal", concludes the information note.
