The LBP reports that 70 firefighters were injured on duty in 2022, a number that increased to 132 in 2023 and 50 until May this year.

The League indicates that these 252 firefighters were assisted by the Firefighter Social Protection Fund, managed by the LBP, which aims to support accident situations that have been proven to have occurred in the service of fire brigades.

Accidents on duty and the importance of the Firefighter Social Protection Fund will be highlighted in the celebrations of the National Firefighter Day, which will take place on Sunday, in Entroncamento (Santarém), where the injured firefighters will also be remembered.

According to the LBP, two of the firefighters involved in accidents, Rui Cruz, from the Pinhal Novo Volunteer Firefighters, and Pedro Almeida, from the Guimarães Volunteer Firefighters, will be decorated at the ceremony marking the National Firefighter Day.
