SNS 24 has answered nearly 1.2 million calls (alone) this year
This number represents almost double the same period last year, reveals the Shared Services of the Ministry of Health (SPMS).

The SNS 24 has already answered close to 1.2 million calls this year, almost twice as many as in the same period last year, when more than 615 thousand calls were answered.
"January was the month with the most calls, exceeding 271 thousand, followed by March, with more than 264 thousand calls, and April registered more than 257 thousand calls. In this month of May, up to the 23rd, more than 200 thousand calls were answered", we read in a statement from the Shared Services of the Ministry of Health (SPMS), to which the Notícias ao Minuto had access.
On average, according to the note, the SNS 24 answered around 8,200 calls per day this year.
It should be noted that through the telephone contact to the SNS 24, "the Screening, Counseling and Referral Service evaluates and guides citizens faced with a non-emergency health problem, for example, cough, fever, mild to moderate pain, nausea, among others", highlights the statement.
As for the screening, it is done according to the clinical situation and the respective referral to the appropriate level of care – self-care, primary health care, emergency services, INEM or the Poison Information Center.
"The Shared Services of the Ministry of Health have promoted communication and health literacy campaigns that seek to raise awareness among citizens about the proper use of health services, so that they do not resort to emergencies without prior referral from the SNS 24", concludes the note.
