As the vote count from the Madeira election was underway, and while speaking to RTP in the 'flash interview' of the Portuguese Cup football final, the head of state declined to comment on scenarios based on the poll released after the polls closed.

"Let's wait and see the results and what the representative of the Republic says", since he is the one who has the competence to "exercise this power", to verify the conditions of governability, after the results of today's elections.

As for the criticisms directed at him by the leader of the PSD/Madeira and former president of the Regional Government of Madeira, Marcelo said he limited himself to saying that "the President does not comment on party statements".

Regarding the European elections, the head of state predicted that the Portuguese will respond in the same way they did in the legislative elections in March, by flocking to the polls, rejecting a situation of "electoral fatigue".

As for the Portuguese Cup final, in which FC Porto beat Sporting 2-1, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa considered that it was "a great game" with "great emotion and dedication from both teams".

The President also left a word for the outgoing president of FC Porto, Jorge Nuno Pinto da Costa, who he considered will go down in history as the leader who raised the team "to a level where two teams already were", making it clear that "Portugal is not just Lisbon". "And Portugal as a whole ended up winning with that".

In the end, Marcelo highlighted the "very beautiful way of ending" the Portuguese Cup final "with the two presidents, the one leaving and the one entering, hugging each other", in a reference to Pinto da Costa and André Vilas-Boas, who was elected president of FC Porto last month.
