After several unstable days, summer temperatures are expected to arrive in mainland Portugal this week. According to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere, thermometers will rise throughout the week, reaching 36ºC on Wednesday.

For this Wednesday, mostly clear skies or high clouds are expected for almost the entire country - the warmest district will be Faro with 31ºC. Beja and Castelo Branco are expected to reach 30ºC and Évora, Portalegre will be very close with 29ºC and 28ºC.

In Lisbon, thermometers are not expected to exceed 22ºC maximum and 14ºC minimum and in Porto 21ºC/10ºC. The coolest district should be Aveiro with a maximum of 19ºC.

For the Azores, rain is expected for the western group (Flores and Corvo) and partly cloudy skies for the remaining seven islands, with temperatures rising to 23ºC and dropping to 15ºC. In Madeira, the sky will also be partly cloudy and temperatures will fluctuate between 17ºC minimum and 23ºC maximum.

In the archipelagos, the scenario will be identical tomorrow, Tuesday, May 28. In mainland Portugal, the sun will shine in most of the districts and the thermometers will soar.

The warmest district will be Beja with 34ºC. Évora and Castelo Branco follow with 33ºC, Santarém and Portalegre with 32ºC, Setúbal with 31ºC and Braga with 30ºC. In Porto, temperatures are not expected to exceed 23ºC maximum and in Lisbon 26ºC.

On Wednesday, May 29, when rain is expected for the Azores and some clouds for Madeira, the mainland will be under intense heat, with thermometers reaching 36ºC in Évora, 35ºC in Beja and Castelo Branco, 34ºC in Santarém, 33ºC in Setúbal and Portalegre, 31ºC in Braga and Vila Real and 30ºC in Bragança and Viseu.

In Lisbon, thermometers should hit 28ºC maximum and in Porto 24ºC.
