MAI considers that "career is already attractive just for being a police officer"

The Minister of Internal Administration, Margarida Blasco, presided over the Inauguration Ceremony of the Deputy National Directors and National Inspector of the Public Security Police (PSP) on Monday.
Confronted by journalists present at the site about the protests of the security forces that have taken place in recent months in Portugal, the minister admitted that "obviously we have to give the financial conditions" to the police so that they can do their job, considering, however, that the "career is already attractive just for being a police officer".
Questioned about the 'supplement' at the centre of the controversy, attributed to the Judiciary Police (PJ) but not to the PSP and the National Republican Guard (GNR), Margarida Blasco reiterated that she can only talk about it "after the negotiations, which are underway".
"We want to give the guards and officers adequate financial conditions. Better financial and working conditions, but we have a budget and it has to be consistent with reality", she reiterated, recalling that the government has made "an effort to maintain a conversation with all the unions".
Despite the fact that it is essential to maintain a "balanced budget", the minister revealed to journalists that the supervisory authority is working with the local authorities, as well as the PSP and GNR, in order to "have more prevention" and "local policing".
Regarding the lack of elements to implement this measure, Margarida Blasco assured that "there will be police officers". "We are reorganizing in order to maximize what we have, and more competitions will be opened towards the end of the year", she explained.
