"There are three States, Portugal, Greece and Denmark, that have presented a proposal [...] for a support, I would say, systematic to the new Palestinian Government, of the Prime Minister [Mohammad] Mustafa, in order to strengthen its institutional capacity and launch reforms that potentiate the affirmation of a Palestinian State in the future", said Paulo Rangel, in Brussels.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs considered that the Palestinian Authority under the aegis of Mohammad Mustafa "has demonstrated a reasonableness and a constructive spirit".

Paulo Rangel admitted that the proposal is "only a program for the institutional capacity building" of the Palestinian Authority to be able to fulfill "the script of reforms that the Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa presented".

On Sunday, the Prime Minister of the Palestinian Authority defended that the only way to ensure the implementation of the two-State solution was through the recognition of the State of Palestine, which Spain, Ireland and Norway will do this week.

Questioned about the recognition of the State of Palestine, Paulo Rangel rejected that this hypothesis is being considered for now.

"I, honestly, have not even spoken because the Portuguese position is so clear, so clear, there has never been any Government that has done so much for the recognition of the situation in which Palestine is as this one. The vote we made in the General Assembly [of the United Nations] has no parallel in the Portuguese tradition", answered the Minister.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs added that in the Israeli-Palestinian issue "Portugal has a mediation position" to "maintain the entire dialogue with the Palestinian authorities and with Israel".

"For us to be able to be in this mediation solution, we have taken the necessary steps to maintain the credibility and support of both parties and I think that this is an invaluable asset for a State like Portugal", he added.

Paulo Rangel announced that he also joined the criticisms and condemnation of the Israeli bombing in Rafah, in the Gaza Strip, on Sunday, after the International Court of Justice decreed that Tel Aviv had to cease the invasion of the Palestinian enclave and open the humanitarian corridors.
