The Portuguese Navy military personnel deployed on a mission in Lithuania marked ‘Memorial Day’ this Monday, which celebrates those who died “in service of the nation”.
“Today, May 27, is Memorial Day, a day when we honour those who died in service of the nation. Despite having originated in the United States, this day is commemorated worldwide, within the military community”, the organisation highlighted in a statement.
The same note added that, as a tribute, thousands of military personnel have joined together and performed the same training to honour “all those who, for our freedom, made the ultimate sacrifice”, since 2005.
Known as ‘Murph’, in honour of Lieutenant Michael Murphy, the training consists of a one-mile run, 100 pull-ups, 200 push-ups, 300 squats and another one-mile run, “all performed with a tactical vest and ballistic plates”.
“This is more than a physical test, it is a symbol of honour, courage and resilience”, highlighted the entity.
