A Portuguese EuroAtlantic Airways - Transportes Aéreos, SA plane made an emergency landing at Seville Airport in Spain on Monday evening. The cause is believed to have been "a problem with one of the engines".

The newspaper Expresso, quoting a source from the airline, indicated that the problem is being "investigated" and the plane landed safely.

It is a plane with a Portuguese registration, which issued the emergency code 7700, used to represent imminent danger and requiring immediate assistance. EuroAtlantic Airways explained, however, that the issuance of the code is part of the protocol for the plane to land.

According to the FlightRadar24 platform, which tracks flights, this is flight YU613, which departed from Jerez de la Frontera, Spain, bound for San Salvador International Airport in El Salvador.

The plane took off at 9:05 p.m. local time (8:05 p.m. in Spain) and issued code 7700 "shortly after takeoff", landing "safely" less than 20 minutes later in Seville.

On the social network X, the Spanish Air Traffic Controllers platform indicated that "the crew of the flight that departed from Jerez bound for Central America" reported a "technical problem on board" and asked to divert to "Seville airport".

According to the same source, the plane "landed without incident".

On the same social network, Cádiz Club de Fútbol announced that the team was on the plane that "had to make an emergency stop".

"The Cádiz CF team had to make an emergency stop a few minutes ago at Seville airport, after a mechanical failure on the plane bound for El Salvador", it reads.

"Given the circumstances and the impossibility of finding a solution from the airline, the trip to El Salvador has been canceled", they added.
