In statements to Lusa on Saturday, Raimundo Carreiro had said that this aircraft could carry about 100 tons of merchandise to that region of Brazil, the most dramatically affected by the floods, but "the initial forecast was that", it did not happen, so about 11 tons are on board, the diplomat explained today.

At the time, Raimundo Carreira had already mentioned that the cargo would only be definitively closed on Monday, the day before the flight's departure.

According to the ambassador, "from an air point of view, negotiations end with this [TAP flight]" to send donations from Portugal to Brazil, and what is left in storage will be shipped, which he reiterated today.

According to a statement issued on Monday by the Portuguese Air Carrier, the humanitarian flight of TAP and the Portuguese State "will be made in an Airbus A330-900 neo, which will only transport cargo, and with the collaboration of the crew composed of two pilots and two cabin crew, specifically assigned to this flight".

The aircraft departs from Lisbon airport and is bound for São Paulo and will carry essential goods such as diapers, clothing and toiletries, the note adds, confirming what had been advanced by the spokesperson for the SOS RS group that launched the appeal for help from Portuguese and Brazilians to the victims of the floods, and has continued to coordinate the storage and shipment of these donated products.

Also according to the airline's statement, this humanitarian flight departs from Lisbon "at 10:10 am local time, and is scheduled to arrive in São Paulo at 5:00 pm local time".

At this moment, according to the survey carried out for the Brazilian Embassy in Lisbon by the various entities that coordinate the aid, there are still 300 tons of donations stored in Portugal to be sent to Rio Grande do Sul.

An official source from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs had confirmed to Lusa on Friday that the Portuguese Government would send a TAP aircraft to Rio Grande do Sul today.

"The realization of this flight is a gesture of solidarity supported by the Portuguese State through TAP", added the source, adding that the role of the Portuguese Government was to facilitate the transport of aid from various sources.

The first flight that followed with a shipment of donations to that region of Brazil, which is experiencing a dramatic situation because it was the most affected by the floods, was not exclusively intended for donations to Rio Grande do Sul, but this one will be.

On the Latam aircraft, which departed from Lisbon on May 17 bound for São Paulo, space was provided on the aircraft for donations.

On the flight, followed "a first batch of humanitarian cargo of about 300 kg [space provided by Latam on the aircraft] of goods donated by the Brazilian community in Portugal and by Portuguese citizens, destined for the victims of the floods in Rio Grande do Sul", the Brazilian Embassy in Portugal then announced on the social network Instagram.

Azul Airlines is also gradually transporting 20 tons of merchandise on its regular flights, as the ambassador informed.
