The Judiciary Police (PJ) arrested on Monday seven suspects of two aggravated robbery crimes, seven qualified theft crimes, three theft crimes, one document forgery/counterfeiting crime, and one prohibited weapon possession crime, committed in the municipalities of Vila Nova de Famalicão, Braga, and Barcelos. According to a statement from the PJ, to which Notícias ao Minuto had access, the investigation by the Braga Criminal Investigation Department "began on October 28, 2023, with the report of two robbery crimes in a residence in Joane, where two men were present". "The assailants fired several gunshots, hitting one of the men, who still managed to flee outside. The second victim was threatened and subjected to several attacks. After the robbery, the assailants fled", says that police force. Both victims, aged 24, needed to receive hospital treatment for the injuries they sustained. As the investigation progressed, it was possible to follow the group's criminal activity, and it was found that, from the end of April, four of the suspects committed several qualified thefts, targeting automatic payment machines and other valuables installed in commercial establishments in the municipalities of Braga and Barcelos, causing losses of several tens of thousands of euros. On Monday, the PJ carried out several house searches and other investigative steps, which culminated in the collection of important evidence. "Six were arrested outside of flagrante delicto, by issuing arrest warrants, and a seventh was arrested in flagrante delicto", says the authority. The detainees, six men and one woman, aged between 20 and 34, with criminal records, will be presented to the competent authorities for judicial interrogation and application of coercive measures.
