16 vehicles seized in operation against illegal races and "tuning"

The Public Security Police (PSP) seized 16 vehicles on May 26, as part of an inspection operation to combat illegal street racing and vehicle modifications (tuning) in Viseu.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the security force revealed that it carried out this operation, with the support of the Institute of Mobility and Transport (IMT), between 1:00 pm and 5:30 pm that day, on Avenida Cidade de São Filipe.
The objective was to "raise awareness of the dangers associated with these types of practices, especially when carried out in inappropriate conditions and spaces, putting at risk the life and physical integrity of the drivers themselves, other drivers, and road users".
In total, according to the PSP, around 30 vehicles were inspected, "with sixteen having been seized". Of these seized vehicles, 15 were for "modification of characteristics" and one for "lack of mandatory civil liability insurance".
The PSP emphasizes that it "will remain vigilant, maintaining due surveillance and triggering inspection operations with a view to promoting greater road safety for all road users".
