Marcelo heads national delegation at June Peace Summit
The President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, will lead the Portuguese delegation to the Peace Summit that Ukraine is organizing and that will take place in Switzerland in June.

The announcement was made today by the Portuguese Prime Minister, Luís Montenegro, at a joint press conference with the Ukrainian President, Volodomyr Zelensky, who is on a state visit to Portugal.
In his opening speech, Luís Montenegro said that he had discussed with the Ukrainian Prime Minister, at the meeting held in São Bento and which preceded the signing of a bilateral security agreement, "the preparations for two initiatives of the utmost importance that will take place in June: The Conference on the Reconstruction of Ukraine, which will take place on the 11th and 12th in Berlin, and the Peace Summit on the 15th and 16th.
In the view of the leader of the Portuguese government, this summit "will seek a platform conducive to launching negotiations for a just and lasting peace" in Ukraine.
Then, before Volodymyr Zelkenky, Luís Montenegro said that, during the meeting, he reiterated to the Ukrainian Head of State Portugal's commitment "to a presence at the highest level".
"I can even announce that it will be the President of the Republic [Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa] who will lead the delegation, which will also include the Minister of State and Foreign Affairs, Paulo Rangel. Before the President of Ukraine, I also want to reaffirm that Portugal will continue to make every effort and all contacts, at all levels, to mobilize and motivate the largest number of countries, with a view to participating in a meeting, which is a meeting looking to peace and the future", said the Prime Minister.
Also in this context, Luís Montenegro said that, during his meeting with Volodymyr Zelensky, the situation on the battlefield in Ukraine was analyzed in view of the Russian invasion and the support that has been provided to Kiev to defend itself.
"Portugal's support for Ukraine's legitimate defense is unwavering and firm, promoting a just peace based on the formula that President Zelensky has been presenting", he added.
