Dozens of firefighters are tackling a fire that is "burning with great intensity" in the town of Espiunca, in the municipality of Arouca, Notícias ao Minuto has confirmed with the Metropolitan Area of Porto's Sub-regional Emergency and Civil Protection Command.

According to the same source, the flames are "burning with great intensity". For the time being, there are no villages at risk.

Speaking to Lusa, a source from Civil Protection later said that the fire forced the Paiva walkways to be evacuated.

According to Civil Protection, the alert for the fire was given at 4:25 pm and six air resources have already been mobilised.

Firefighters from Arouca, Feijões, Nespereira, Espinho, Santa Maria da Feira, São João da Madeira, Lourosa, Oliveira de Azeméis, Crestuma, Gondomar, Vale de Cambra, Resende, Ceifães and Carvalhos are also on site. 

In total, there are more than 80 firefighters, supported by 21 land vehicles.
