The dinner with Zelensky will also be attended by the Prime Minister, Luís Montenegro, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Paulo Rangel, and the Vice-President of the Assembly of the Republic Teresa Morais, informed the Presidency of the Portuguese Republic.

The official welcoming ceremony for the President of Ukraine, who arrived at the Belém Palace around 6:10 pm, took place in the Pátio dos Bichos.

The two heads of state listened to the national anthems of Portugal and Ukraine and passed through a guard of honor formed by the Presidential Squadron.

Then, in the Sala das Bicas, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa and Volodymyr Zelensky posed side by side for the official photograph, shook hands vigorously, and the President of Ukraine signed the Belém Palace Book of Honor.

In the message he signed, Zelensky thanks "Portugal's solidarity with the Ukrainian people in these times of enormous and severe challenges, caused by Russian armed aggression".

"Together with friends like Portugal, Ukraine will definitely win, and a just and lasting peace will be restored in our common European home," adds the President of Ukraine, wishing Portugal and all the Portuguese people "peace and prosperity".

The meeting between the two heads of state was scheduled for 6:00 pm and the working dinner for 6:30 pm.

Zelensky arrived in Lisbon around 2:50 pm today, for a visit of a few hours, during which he has already met with the Portuguese Prime Minister, Luís Montenegro, with whom he signed a bilateral cooperation and security agreement.

This agreement provides for Portugal to provide military support to Ukraine in the amount of at least 126 million euros this year.

In August last year, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa made a two-day visit to Ukraine, at the invitation of President Volodymyr Zelensky, on the occasion of the 32nd anniversary of the country's independence.

During that visit, the Portuguese head of state visited Kiev, Bucha, Moshchun, Irpin and Horenka, in a sign of support for the Ukrainians in the war in defense against the invasion by the Russian Federation that began in February 2022.
