Arouca Fire was resolved at 8 pm

The fire that broke out at 4:30pm today in the municipality of Arouca, district of Aveiro, and which forced the evacuation of the Paiva walkways, was brought under control at around 8:00pm, a source from Civil Protection reported.

In statements to Lusa, a source from the Sub-regional Emergency and Civil Protection Command of the Porto Metropolitan Area said that the fire, which was fought by dozens of operatives with the support of eight air resources, entered the resolution phase at 8:05 pm, which means that it is "an occurrence with no risk of spreading".

At 8:45 pm, according to the same source, 97 operatives from various fire brigades from the districts of Aveiro, Porto and Viseu remained on site, assisted by 31 vehicles and two air resources.

The alert for the forest fire in the Espiunca area, in Arouca, was given at around 4:30 pm.

The fire, which had two active fronts, evolved with "great intensity" and came close to the Vau river beach, a situation that "forced the evacuation of the walkways".
