Paulo Rangel clarified this Tuesday that the 10-year agreement signed this Tuesday between the Portuguese Government and the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, was 'promised' by the former Prime Minister António Costa - and specified the values announced (and paid).

"It is an agreement of the Portuguese Government, not of parties. But who committed to making this agreement was António Costa at the Vilnius Summit", said the Portuguese Minister of Foreign Affairs in an interview with SIC Notícias.

Regarding the 126 million, the amount that Portugal will give to Kyiv in 2024, 100 million had already been agreed by the previous Executive.

"The former Prime Minister António Costa, in office, spoke with the leader of the opposition and they both agreed to give 100 million for the Czech initiative", said Paulo Rangel, emphasizing that "who paid" was not the previous Government, but the Executive of Luís Montenegro.

The 26 million thus reinforce the 'cheque' of 100 million euros announced by António Costa, under the common ammunition purchase program for Ukraine developed by the Czech Republic.

It is worth recalling that the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, was in Lisbon this afternoon, where he participated in a bilateral meeting with the Prime Minister, Luís Montenegro, and was also received with military honours at the Belém Palace, in Lisbon, by the Portuguese Head of State, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa -, with whom he had a meeting followed by dinner.

Zelensky arrived in Portugal around 2:50 pm for a visit of a few hours, having signed a bilateral cooperation and security agreement with Montenegro. This agreement provides for Portugal to provide military support to Ukraine in the amount of at least 126 million euros this year.
