It was 11:36 when the president declared the 31st Congress open. According to the program, the proceedings were scheduled to start at 10:00.
Two minutes earlier, the party leader, Nuno Melo, entered the room, which was already full, went up to the stage and greeted the congress table and the delegates, who applauded and shouted "CDS, CDS, CDS".
In an initial speech to the congressmen, the president of the congress argued that this great meeting shows that "the CDS is alive, mobilized to grow and, above all, to serve Portugal".
"As you can see in this room, the news that spoke of the disappearance or death of the CDS was clearly exaggerated," he said.
José Manuel Rodrigues also argued that this is a "landmark congress" because it marks the return of the CDS-PP to the Assembly of the Republic and to the Government and stressed that the party is present in the national executive, and also in Madeira and the Azores.
"How great our party is," he concluded.
The stage, in shades of blue, has the indication of the 31st Congress in the center and two viewfinders on each side. In the center, the pulpit where the speeches will be made.
