MP Cristóvão Norte re-elected president of PSD/Algarve district
Cristóvão Norte, vice-president of the PSD parliamentary group in the Assembly of the Republic, was re-elected today as president of the party's district political commission in the Algarve, with 95.9% of the votes, he told Lusa.

Cristóvão Norte led the only candidate list in the elections for the PSD's Faro district political commission, which took place simultaneously in the municipalities of the 16 municipalities of the Algarve, between 3:00 pm and 6:00 pm, and will now exercise his second term in office.
The re-elected president of the Algarve district political commission obtained 511 of the 541 votes cast, out of a universe of about 1,115 voters, in a vote that counted 22 blank votes and eight null votes, quantified the party leader.
In a first reaction to the result, Cristóvão Norte stated that "the PSD is a beacon of stability and change in the country", when "on the right it seems that there are those who want chaos and on the left those who are eager to return to power tomorrow".
"In the Algarve there is much to do, the Algarveans do not believe that the central government will take the necessary measures to solve critical problems in the region, such as health or water, but we have confidence in the Government, we know that the Government is capable and we will help the Government to be able to overcome these problems", declared the social democratic leader, after being re-elected for a new two-year term.
Cristóvão Norte stressed that the "fundamental banner" of his candidacy regarding public investment in the Algarve involves the construction of the new central hospital of the Algarve and the resolution of the water problem, which has been worsening in the region due to the drought and the lack of rain.
Cristóvão Norte returned to parliament after the legislative elections last March, after a break in the last legislature, and was elected vice-president of the parliamentary bench of the social democrats.
Among the objectives of the Algarve deputy for his second term at the head of the Faro district is also the preparation of the local government process, given that "the socialist hegemony in the local governments has been a factor of delay" in the region, Cristóvão Norte had said when he launched his candidacy.
The mandate of the current PSD District Political Commission of the Algarve, elected at the end of 2021, ended in December, but internal guidelines of the party recommend that the elections of the districts be postponed whenever they coincide with the calendar of legislative elections.
