"Following what we heard, but especially everything we have been doing for two years, I want to tell you that the CDS has learned from its mistakes", he said.

This position was defended by the centrist leader to the delegates present at the 31st grand meeting, in Viseu, in the closing phase of the debate on the global strategic motion presented by Nuno Melo, under the motto "Time to Grow", which ended up being unanimously approved moments later.

Melo took to the stage to thank the debate and the suggestions left by the members and apologized for something he considered not to be his fault: moments before, at 11:00 pm, the former secretary-general of the CDS-PP Francisco Tavares had gone up to the pulpit, but refused to speak given the time and the room with few seats occupied.

"I will not make the statement I had. Honestly, I think it is disrespectful that a former secretary-general of the party is treated this way. I registered before lunch, I am speaking at this moment with the room empty and without even the president of the party being present", he said.

Francisco Tavares, who was secretary-general when Francisco Rodrigues dos Santos led the party, congratulated the president of the CDS-PP "for returning to parliament and the Government" and said that Nuno Melo would like his speech.

"I am very sorry, in these conditions, that I cannot make my speech", he concluded.

Nuno Melo greeted Francisco Tavares for having gone up to the pulpit "when there were already few people" in the room and stressed that "the party belongs to everyone and only makes sense made with everyone".

"I know what we have to do: unite to be reliable, present solutions to be credible, embrace new causes to be current, modernize the language to attract young people, respect the heritage of almost 50 years to be coherent. It seems like little, but I believe that it is essential and if we do so, my friends, in two years we will be celebrating much more, knowing well that what we celebrate today is also not little", he concluded.

Moments before, the secretary-general of the Popular Youth (JP), Tomás Amaro Monteiro, announced that the global strategic motion presented by this structure, entitled "Ensuring the Future".

Tomás Amaro Monteiro rejected "a nostalgic party" and asked for a political force "with hunger and race", focused "on the future, without fear of being modern".

"The CDS can join with the JP, the JP expects the CDS to count on us", he concluded.
