Sebastião Bugalho is the AD's top candidate for the European elections

Sebastião Bugalho will be the top candidate for the Democratic Alliance (AD) in the European elections in June. The news was reported by SIC Notícias, where the journalist is a commentator, and confirmed to Lusa by an official source from the coalition.
The list of the Democratic Alliance coalition (PSD, CDS-PP and PPM) for the European Parliament will be voted on today at a meeting of the PSD National Council, scheduled for 9:00 p.m. in Lisbon.
Sebastião Maria Reis Bugalho was born on November 15, 1995 (28 years old) and is currently a columnist for Expresso and a television commentator for SIC.
In 2019, he ran as an independent on the CDS-PP candidate lists for deputies, under the leadership of Assunção Cristas, but was not elected. Two years later, he could have replaced Ana Rita Bessa in the Assembly of the Republic, but he declined.
The eldest son of journalists João Alberto Santos Fernandes Bugalho and Patrícia Reis, Bugalho was a student of the Political Science course at the Institute of Political Studies of the Catholic University, having taken his first steps in journalism at i and Sol and was then a commentator on TVI24.
In recent days, the mayor of Porto, Rui Moreira, was the most talked about name to lead the AD list for the European elections, which generated some contestation among Porto militants. At the end of the afternoon today, several media outlets reported that Rui Moreira would no longer be a candidate for the AD. The reason that led to Moreira's 'no' was the fact that he was not the first name on the list chosen by the prime minister and president of the PSD, Luís Montenegro.
It should be noted that the PS Political Commission is also meeting tonight to approve the list of PS candidates for the June elections. It is already known that the former minister Marta Temido will be the top candidate for the socialists.
