In the draft resolution, submitted one day after the solemn session commemorating the 50th anniversary of the April 25, 1974 revolution, the CDS-PP argues that the date marked the path "towards an irreversibly liberal democracy of the Western model".

"Commemorating November 25, a date that the overwhelming majority of democrats adhere to, is to reaffirm this House's commitment to the universal principles of freedom of expression, party pluralism and free elections", consider the two CDS-PP deputies, Paulo Núncio and João Almeida.

The deputies recall the recent statements by General Ramalho Eanes, former President of the Republic, according to which "November 25 is a continuation of April 25" and that separating the dates of the 1974 revolution and November 25, 1975 "is a historical error".

In addition, the Government decided to create a Commission to commemorate the 50th anniversary of November 25 in 2025, emphasizes the CDS-PP, which already in 2019 presented a resolution with the same objective, rejected by the votes against the PS, BE, PCP and PEV and which had the abstention of the PSD and PAN. In addition to the CDS-PP, Chega and IL voted in favor.

In the X Legislature, in 2005, the CDS-PP had proposed holding a solemn session to mark the 30th anniversary of that date, an initiative that lapsed without going to a vote.

Already in Thursday's solemn session, the Liberal Initiative announced the submission of a resolution so that the program of the April 25 commemorations includes a ceremony for the fiftieth anniversary of November 25, 1975 next year.

On November 25, 1975, about a thousand paratroopers from the Tancos School Base occupied the Monsanto Air Region Command and six air bases, an act that the Group of Nine - a group of military officers from the moderate wing of the Armed Forces Movement - considered an indication that a coup d'état could be in preparation by the so-called military left.

The attempted uprising of those military units, connotated with sectors of the extreme left, was halted by a device based on the Amadora commando regiment, under the direction of then Lieutenant-Colonel Ramalho Eanes, future President of the Republic.

At the end of the afternoon, the then President of the Republic, Francisco da Costa Gomes, decreed a state of siege in the Lisbon region, and the situation was controlled by the military assigned to the Group of Nine in the MFA.

The events of November 25, 1975 had several versions over the decades and caused divisions over the responsibilities of each of the actors and over who took the first step.
