Lucília Gago heard in the Assembly of the Republic? "I don't think it's relevant"

Former MEP Vital Moreira spoke out on Sunday against the proposal by the President of the Assembly of the Republic, José Pedro Aguiar-Branco, to invite the Attorney General of the Republic (PGR), Lucília Gago, to give statements about the proceedings that led to the fall of the national and regional governments of Madeira. "I do not think it is relevant", he considered.
Despite defending the resignation of the PGR due to irresponsibility regarding Operation Influencer and the Madeira case, Vital Moreira does not see "what clarification could result from such a parliamentary hearing" by Lucília Gago.
In a post on the blog Causa Nossa, Vital Moreira begins by emphasizing that "one thing is the subjection of the general activity of the MP and the guidance of the PGR to parliamentary scrutiny" and another "is a parliamentary interpellation on specific proceedings under investigation by the MP, whose external control should remain reserved for the courts".
Vital Moreira stressed that in relation to the Influencer case, the Public Prosecutor's Office "instrumentalized its investigative powers as a weapon of political persecution". Even so, he considers that Parliament "should not contribute, on its part, to the regrettable politicization of criminal action, which, moreover, the parties can condemn without having to "call to account" the PGR".
"If the MP does not seem to refrain from violating the necessary separation between the sphere of justice and the political sphere, the AR should be more scrupulous in observing such separation", he concluded.
