The leader of the PAN, Inês Sousa Real, defended that 50 years of May 1st in Portugal "mark the work" that is necessary to "continue to do to guarantee the dignity and the appreciation of the workers".

"These 50 years mark the work that we have to continue to do to guarantee the dignity and the appreciation of the workers. We know that it is fundamental to resume the negotiation regarding the appreciation of various careers", she said, in statements to RTP 3, in Lisbon, at the Labour Day parade.

The sole deputy of the PAN defended that the party wants an "agenda for the 21st century", with an "economy of happiness and well-being" and, therefore, has already presented proposals that aim, for example, at "the allocation of the birthday as a holiday", "guaranteeing that the workers can enjoy the holidays that fall on the weekend" and the right to "mourning in the case of the death of companion animals".

It should be noted that hundreds of people started around 3:30 pm to walk up Avenida Almirante Reis towards Alameda Afonso Henriques, in Lisbon, to mark Labour Day.

"May 1st, increase salaries and pensions, guarantee rights" and "Fight exploitation, April for a Portugal with a future", are the slogans that head a march that the secretary-general of the CGTP, Tiago Oliveira, wants to be a demonstration of the workers that the values of April are as present as they were 50 years ago.
