Bugalho "doesn't know how many corners are in the symbol of the Portuguese Republic"

The cause is the fact that Sebastião Bugalho mentioned, during his presentation speech as head of the list of the Democratic Alliance (AD), that the Portuguese flag had "seven quinas".

The leader of the Left Bloc (BE), Mariana Mortágua, accused, this Wednesday, the new Government of not having done "anything" during the legislature and of having chosen a top candidate for the European Elections who "does not know how many quinas the symbol of the Portuguese Republic has", referring to Sebastião Bugalho.

"The new Government has not done anything yet. It changed the Republic's logo, which was a major concern for the Government", she began by stating in declarations to journalists, in Lisbon, on the sidelines of the Labour Day parade.

"Apparently, the candidate for the European elections, despite the PSD's concern, does not know how many quinas the symbol of the Portuguese Republic has", she added.

The issue at hand is the fact that Sebastião Bugalho mentioned, during his presentation speech as top candidate of the Democratic Alliance (AD), that the Portuguese flag had "seven quinas".

"The first flag on Mars, on the day we get there, may not be the Portuguese flag, it may not be our seven quinas. But it will certainly be a European flag. It will certainly have 12 stars and Portugal will be one of those stars", he stated, on Sunday.

Mariana Mortágua continued to criticise the Government, stating that only "promises, many of them misleading, such as in the case of the IRS" and a "musical chairs that does not solve any of the problems that the country faces" have been presented.

The Blocist leader was referring to the dismissal of the Board of the Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa. The provider Ana Jorge, it should be recalled, took office on 2 May 2023, chosen by the previous socialist Government of António Costa, and inherited an institution with serious financial difficulties, after years of pandemic and a process of internationalisation of social games, carried out by the administration of the provider Edmundo Martinho, which may have caused losses in the order of 50 million euros.

On Tuesday, the Government accused the dismissed provider and the members of the Board of "grossly negligent actions" that affected the management of the institution, thus justifying the dismissal.
