"Having a different system has to be a tripartite system and not a bipartisan one. Therefore, we will not accept this debate model, I hope that another one will be found soon", he said.

On the sidelines of a visit to Feira da Ladra, in Lisbon, the leader of Chega was questioned about the most recent proposal for debates for the European elections sent on Sunday by the television channels to the parties, which foresees three debates with all the forces with parliamentary seats and a face-to-face between PS and Aliança Democrática (PSD, CDS-PP and PPM).

This proposal came after a first one that foresaw 28 debates, but which, according to Expresso, was rejected by the top candidates of PS and Aliança Democrática, Marta Temido and Sebastião Bugalho, respectively.

André Ventura considered that this solution "favours bipartisanship, when the system on 10 March clearly broke bipartisanship".

"That is what we cannot accept. If they want to have a longer debate, it has to be with three, and it cannot be with two", he defended.

The leader of Chega considered that "there was a proposal that was transmitted, which was to have equality between the candidacies, even knowing that there are three parties that have many more votes than all the others, which is the case of PSD, PS and Chega".

"Even knowing that there could be a different system, because these parties today represent many more people than the others, we accepted a proposal to debate with everyone, and I only did not accept debating with those who are not in parliament because there is no time", he indicated.

The new proposal sent on Sunday by RTP, SIC and TVI includes debates with the eight top candidates of the parties with parliamentary seats simultaneously on 14, 21 and 28 May and a face-to-face between PS and Aliança Democrática (coalition that brings together PSD, CDS-PP and PPM) on 23, according to party sources.

The campaign for the European elections starts on 27 May and lasts until 07 June. The European elections are scheduled for 09 June.
