"Socialist Party created a country without immigration policies"
Carlos Moedas, Mayor of Lisbon and former European Commissioner, is the representative of the Democratic Alliance's candidacy for the European Parliament.

The Mayor of Lisbon and former European Commissioner, Carlos Moedas, spoke about immigration policies and Europe's role in the world, as the representative of the Democratic Alliance for the European elections in June this year.
"We saw the refugee crisis, we saw how it divided Europe, we saw what happens when there is no immigration policy. Today, we see what is happening in Lisbon, we see the humanitarian drama of the Socialist Party, which created a country without immigration policies, without dignified policies for the people who are here", he said.
Moedas argued that "it was not the European Socialist Party" that took "the first step" in immigration policies. "It was Jean-Claude Juncker and Angela Merkel. The Asylum and Migration Pact was them, it was our party, it was the European People's Party", he said.
Furthermore, the former European Commissioner for Research, Innovation and Science (2014-2019) stated that Europe has been "the remedy for the world's crises", "always ahead", with another point that the generation of Sebastião Bugalho, head of the Democratic Alliance candidacy, "brings".
"This generation where I include the extraordinary work done by Paulo Rangel, José Manuel Fernandes, Graça Carvalho and Lídia Pereira in the defence of science. If today we have a science programme like we do, it was thanks to their work. It was hours and hours of work", he continued.
"In order to have science and innovation, we need scale, a large Europe", he also asked, also defending that the continent "takes care of people" and "cities are the best example of this", because it is in them that "everything happens" and where "people are treated". Therefore, Carlos Moedas, himself Mayor of Lisbon, welcomed the fact that the AD lists include three mayors, Hélder Silva, Paulo Cunha and Sérgio Humberto.
