"The situation in the country is difficult and demanding", stated the leader of the PCP, considering that "the right has gained more muscle, gained more strength, gained more stamina with the result of the legislative elections", but "does not have free rein to implement its project and its objectives".

In the inauguration speech of the new PCP work center, in Alcobaça, in the district of Leiria, Paulo Raimundo pointed out as "signs" of this conviction the "historical" support of the population to the commemorations of the 50 years of April 25th and to the demonstration of May 1st.

"I have no doubt that the right does not have free rein", explained Paulo Raimundo to the Lusa agency, emphasizing that the Government of Luis Montenegro "is creating two lines of ideas to justify the failure to fulfill the promises they made in the electoral campaign".

The first, that of "victimization, of 'oh, oh, oh, they won't let us work'" and, the second, that they would have "found a different situation than the one they expected".

For Paulo Raimundo, the scenario is another, of "a right that has a project, that has an option that is at the service of large economic groups", he said, giving as examples "a program, in health, to further privatize" or the 30 measures of the housing program that "do not correspond to the needs".

By the will of the PCP, "this Government would not be in office", added Paulo Raimundo, foreseeing that not having "free rein to fulfill what it promised", the PSD/CDS coalition "will have to take, oh, have to take, in the good sense, with the teachers, with the security forces, with the judicial workers, the health workers and so on".

At the inauguration of the new Alcobaça work center, Paulo Raimundo also expressed confidence "in the battle for the European Parliament" where he considers that the communists have done "exemplary work".

Confident in the candidates that the party presents in practically all the districts of the country, Paulo Raimundo declared himself prepared for an electoral campaign in which the PCP will not allow the other parties to "run away from the debate that needs to be done" following the approval, in the European Parliament, of the new form of economic governance that will have for the country "consequences, immediately, with a cut in public spending of 2.8 billion euros next year".
