Europeias. About 200 independents sign manifesto of support for the CDU
Around two hundred independent citizens sign a manifesto supporting the CDU's candidacy in the next European elections, entitled "The 25th of April did not start in Brussels and the world does not end in Europe".

Among the signatories of the manifesto, which was released today, are social activists, musicians, trade unionists, academics, students, artists, athletes and workers from different sectors of activity.
Among others, the European candidacy led by PCP leader João Oliveira is supported by former Secretary of State Ana Benavente, economist Ricardo Paes Mamede, housing rights activist Rita Silva, filmmaker Rodrigo Gonçalves, as well as Nuno Teles, professor of economics at the Federal University of Bahia (Brazil).
University professors such as Manuel Loff and António Grilo, journalist José António Cerejo and musician Xullaji also signed the manifesto.
In the text of the manifesto, a phrase by writer José Saramago stands out: "I am a skeptical European who learned everything from his skepticism with a teacher named Europe".
It then states that, at the end of the last century, José Saramago criticized the "European construction for two reasons that speak even louder today", the first of which is that the European Union's foreign policy continues "to feed the myth of the superiority of the West over the rest of the world".
The signatories of this manifesto also believe that, "far from protecting against the effects of capitalist globalization, the European Union has been the political-institutional mechanism for accentuating neoliberalism and inequality in Europe and Portugal".
According to the CDU note, the manifesto will be open for subscription until June 1, when the final list of supporters will be released.
