The criticism was made by Luís Montenegro at the end of the first fortnightly debate and provoked vehement protests from the Chega bench, which requested a defense of honor to contest the accusation.
"A commitment made is to be fulfilled. I told the Portuguese voters what the alliance policy that my party would make before and after the elections was and I said that I would not make alliances with the Chega party. I assumed this head-on with the president of Chega", Montenegro stated, in a phase of the debate in which André Ventura was not in the hemicycle.
The prime minister then accused Chega of throwing "a tantrum that corresponds to the expression of political immaturity" that he attributed to this party.
"It is one thing not to have a government alliance, it is another to say yes to the representation of the voters. Riding the wave of your 'no means no' tantrum, you members of parliament are unable to say yes to the national interest, to the interest of the people and that has transported you to an absurd stronghold from a political point of view. Were you members of parliament only really worried about the seats, about the gravy train on this side?", he questioned, receiving a standing ovation from the PSD and CDS-PP members of parliament.
The prime minister then left a proposal of "homework for the coming months" to the Chega bench.
"Take the opportunity to reflect on the need to conform the representation that was entrusted to you with your political attitudes. One of two things: either you, despite not liking my 'no means no' commitment, are able to say yes to the country, or you are objectively closer today to the thinking and proposals of the PS than to the proposals of this government", he said.
Montenegro considered that the discussion in the specialty of the IRS proposals will be an opportunity to do this test.
The parliamentary leader of Chega, Pedro Pinto, then requested the defense of honor of the bench and, when questioned by the president of the Assembly of the Republic about the reason, he replied that it would be "in relation to the tantrum", provoking laughter on the PSD, IL and CDS-PP benches.
"Chega is not here for gravy trains, if there is one thing that we fight it is precisely gravy trains. You know very well that we admit to making government negotiations without positions in the Chega party. It is not Chega that throws tantrums, it has been you who has said 'no means no' from the beginning", he criticized.
Pedro Pinto also accused the government of not fulfilling what it promised to the police and teachers and, in response to asides from the CDS-PP, he said: "I do not speak with addendums, I do not speak with crutches".
"It does not suit you to accuse Chega of what you accused it of", lamented the Chega member of parliament.
