"We can talk about the need to dedicate ourselves a little more to our lands, which were once cultivated and are now being transformed into apartment blocks", she warned, also appealing for associationism in the area of organic producers, to reinforce regional consumption of agricultural production.
Marta Sofia was speaking to journalists during a campaign action at the Mercado do Santo da Serra, an inland parish in the municipality of Santa Cruz, which was attended by the spokesperson for Livre Rui Tavares. The entourage toured the market area after 3:00 pm, at a time with less movement compared to the morning period, but the national leader was approached by many people and even declined some invitations for a drink. "We've already passed by here. I'm still feeling a bit queasy from the curves", he justified himself to the owner of a bar, before explaining that he had travelled in the back seat of the car, along the old road. Rui Tavares participated in the candidacy's initiatives on Saturday and today, and is now considering returning during the course of next week, the second and last week of the campaign for the legislative elections of 26 May. "We took the opportunity to talk about agriculture in this market, which is also a close contact with local production", explained, in turn, the head of the list, Marta Sofia, who is not a member of the party, stressing that the proposal to reduce VAT to 3.5% on organic products aims to encourage their production and consumption. Livre made its debut in the regional legislative elections in September 2023 and obtained 858 votes (0.65%). The Madeira legislative elections of 26 May will be held with 14 candidacies competing for the 47 seats in the regional parliament, in a single electoral constituency: ADN, BE, PS, Livre, IL, RIR, CDU (PCP/PEV), Chega, CDS-PP, MPT, PSD, PAN, PTP and JPP. The early elections are taking place eight months after the most recent regional legislative elections, after the President of the Republic dissolved the Madeiran parliament, following the political crisis triggered in January, when the leader of the Regional Government (PSD/CDS-PP), Miguel Albuquerque, was named a defendant in a case in which suspicions of corruption are being investigated. In September 2023, the PSD/CDS coalition won without an absolute majority and elected 23 deputies. The PS won 11, the JPP five, Chega four, while the CDU, IL, PAN (which signed an agreement of parliamentary incidence with the social democrats) and the BE each obtained one mandate.
