Política Ergue-te

A person was attacked during a campaign action by the far-right party Ergue-te, next to the headquarters of the Left Bloc (BE), in Lisbon, on Monday. The BE members have already announced that they will file a formal complaint with the Public Security Police (PSP).

An official BE source confirmed to Lusa that "a rally promoted by a far-right party" took place at 1:00 pm on Monday, next to the party's national headquarters.

This action was marked by attacks carried out by individuals identified with symbols of the far-right nationalist party and the extremist group Habeas Corpus, led by the former judge Rui Fonseca e Castro, the lead candidate for the European elections for Ergue-te, reported CNN Portugal.

Rui Fonseca e Castro was on site at the time of the attacks, with a microphone in his hand, and told the television channel that the militants were provoked by the man.

The BE, in turn, assured that it had "no prior knowledge" of the action, while also stressing that "the assault of a person, whose identity the Bloc is unaware of, was witnessed".

"The Bloc immediately reported the facts to the PSP and will file a formal complaint due to the nature of this action", an official party source told Lusa.

Last week, the Ergue-te candidate and members of the group invaded a session that was discussing gender issues, in Cabeceiras de Basto.

It should be recalled that the former judge became known for spreading videos with denialist messages, which he shared during the Covid-19 pandemic, through the social network Facebook. He was therefore expelled from the judiciary.
