"The ADN chose RTP today to carry out a campaign action, because journalists are the ones who really listen to the problems of other professional classes, and we forget that they are also a professional class and also have their problems," said Miguel Pita, in statements to the Lusa agency.

After a meeting with the RTP/Madeira workers' commission, in which the party heard about the company's main difficulties, the candidate highlighted the "about two dozen employees who are in court" for being precarious workers, the lack of human resources and the salary "discrimination" compared to the national RTP.

When asked about what the party can do about the issue, Miguel Pita replied that "it is necessary to have a party in the [Legislative] Regional Assembly that defends the regional public service", which includes RTP.

Referring to a possible privatisation of RTP/Madeira, the head of the list said that it would be "the end of the public service and the end of the transparency of the communication service", adding that "the ADN is against the possibility of RTP ever being privatised".

Miguel Pita reinforced that his party, if elected, will defend journalism and public service in the regional parliament, namely journalists with precarious ties.

"Many have been working for several years and performing their duties and have no employment contract," he said.

The ADN was the least voted party, in 13 candidacies, in the last regional elections, having obtained 617 votes, which corresponded to 0.47% of the total.

Sunday's legislative elections in Madeira will take place with 14 candidacies competing for the 47 seats in the regional parliament, in a single electoral constituency: ADN, BE, PS, Livre, IL, RIR, CDU (PCP/PEV), Chega, CDS-PP, MPT, PSD, PAN, PTP and JPP.

The early elections take place eight months after the most recent regional legislative elections, after the President of the Republic dissolved the Madeiran parliament, following the political crisis triggered in January, when the leader of the Regional Government (PSD/CDS-PP), Miguel Albuquerque, was charged in a case involving allegations of corruption.

In September 2023, the PSD/CDS coalition won without an absolute majority and elected 23 deputies. The PS won 11, the JPP five, Chega four, while the CDU, IL, PAN (which signed an agreement for parliamentary action with the Social Democrats) and the BE each obtained one mandate.
