Former MEP João Ferreira commented, this Tuesday, on what was the fifth debate for the Legislative Elections.

"AD and PS are responsible for the eviction law; they accept the increase in interest rates; they have neglected investment in public housing. The CDU, in the European Parliament, proposed changes to the regulation of the Cohesion and ERDF funds to accommodate investment in housing", he began by writing in a post shared on social network X (formerly Twitter).

The communist also pointed the finger at the leader of the Democratic Alliance, Sebastião Bugalho, criticizing the part of the discussion in which the candidate 'chose' one of the areas in which he would like to work in the European Parliament.

In the "momentum" of the poll and "moral lessons", housing shook the debate

This Tuesday, the fifth debate between the leaders of the parties with parliamentary seats took place to discuss the main themes of Europe.

"The young ex-commentator-now-candidate-who-some-commentators-greatly-appreciate has just thrown the Europe 'from the Atlantic to the Urals' into the trash. He discovered that 'continental Europe was invaded by a foreign country'. A prodigy, a scholar, the young man who likes 'foreign affairs'", he said, quoting what Bugalho said in the debate.

The current councilor of the Lisbon City Council also discussed the part of the discussion in which a possible expulsion or suspension of vote of Member States of the European Union [EU] was discussed, and in this context it was not only the candidates who were mentioned: "Moderator and candidate Bugalho talk about the expulsion of Member States from the European Union. They ignore that the EU treaties simply do not provide for this possibility. Which is curious and says a lot about this house where no one is shown the door", he wrote.

The last comments were also directed at this topic. "What happens in the EU, which some call a 'club of democracies', if one of the members is no longer a 'democracy'? Is it expelled? No. It can pay fines, stop receiving funds and voting. But it remains part of the club. Read: the market. Because the EU does not dispense with that...", he considered.

João Oliveira (CDU), Marta Temido (Socialist Party), Sebastião Bugalho (Democratic Alliance) and António Tânger Corrêa (Chega) took part in this fifth debate, and the main themes were housing, but the criticisms also extended to the President of the European Commission, Ursula Von der Leyen, who has a 2nd term 'in sight'.
