The Left Bloc (BE) presented, this Wednesday, a request to set up a parliamentary inquiry committee (CPI) into the management of Santa Casa due to the need to "reinforce scrutiny" after the hearings of the former ombudsman, Ana Jorge, and the Minister of Labour, Solidarity and Social Security, Maria do Rosário Ramalho.

"We decided to proceed with a parliamentary inquiry committee (CPI) because the hearings that were held in Parliament increased the need for scrutiny of the situation of Santa Casa", began by stating the BE deputy José Soeiro, in statements to journalists in the Assembly of the Republic.

"The need for scrutiny regarding the cyclical aspects that have led to an imbalance in Santa Casa and the structural aspects that may explain this imbalance", he added.

The deputy highlighted the "business that has been done in recent years", including the business in Brazil related to the internationalization of games, which "resulted in losses of between 50 and 80 million euros", horse racing, "another investment that had no effect", and "the rather adventurous and questionable investments" in NFT.

"It is necessary to reinforce the scrutiny because the versions that were given in Parliament are contradictory", he stressed.

It should be noted that the party had already announced, last week, that it would request the creation of an inquiry committee into the management of Santa Casa, similar to Chega and the Liberal Initiative, because of the "ruinous" investments linked to the internationalization of social games.
