At the end of the PSD Parliamentary Group meeting, Hugo Soares was asked if the party would propose or support any of the inquiry proposals on the subject, which will be debated in plenary on June 20.
"I can say, from a principle point of view, that the PSD Parliamentary Group will be available to make one of the texts viable. In due time we will make a definitive decision [on which one], but we are available to make a commission of inquiry viable on what happened -- I repeat, what happened -- at SCML," he said.
Hugo Soares defended that "all scrutiny is to be welcomed", but appealed that this commission of inquiry "does not contribute to discrediting the institution", which he considers needs stability now that it has "a new team and a new direction".
"The various proposals have a very similar time horizon, we have no stigma about that. We think that the work should be fast, it should be profitable, it should not create instability in the institution," he said.
According to several media outlets, the PS has also expressed its willingness to make one of the proposals already submitted viable, but without indicating which one.
At the parliamentary group meeting, it was also announced that the PSD will hold conferences on July 1 and 2 with the aim of preparing the debate on the state of the nation, scheduled for the 12th of that month.
The new provider of the Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa, Paulo Duarte Sousa, took office on Monday, after the PSD / CDS-PP Government dismissed the former PS Minister of Health Ana Jorge from office.
The change in the management of the Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa takes place at a time of great turbulence and instability in the institution, with the provider Ana Jorge dismissed before completing a year at the head of the organization, accused by the current government of "seriously negligent actions" that affected the management of the Santa Casa.
Ana Jorge took office on May 2, 2023, chosen by the previous socialist government of António Costa, and inherited an institution with serious financial difficulties, after years of pandemic and a process of internationalization of social games, carried out by the administration of the provider Edmundo Martinho, which could have caused losses in the order of 50 million euros.
