Pedro Nuno Santos spoke to journalists at the end of the plenary votes in which the PS saw its bill approved to extend the VAT on electricity to 6% for 3.4 million families, the last of the five measures that it had committed to at the start of the legislature.

"We managed to get all our proposals approved, one of which was approved in the Council of Ministers. I wanted to record this fact. This is a parliament in operation and it is the PS doing its part, its job and managing to get its measures approved", he emphasized.

The PS secretary-general pointed out that "the Government has not yet managed to approve a single proposal in the Assembly of the Republic" and rejected the idea that Luís Montenegro's executive is being blocked by the opposition.

"Do we have a parliament reduced to PSD and CDS deputies? Then they should have warned the Portuguese that we were only electing PSD deputies. The PSD has as many deputies as the PS", he said.

Pedro Nuno Santos warned that "the PS is not here to make up the numbers" in the opposition, but rather "to do work to respond to some of the problems of the Portuguese people".

The socialist made a point of emphasizing that these measures have been presented with a budgetary cost, unlike those of the Government.

"A week ago there was a big problem with the public accounts. That problem no longer exists and nobody wants to know how much the Government's measures cost", he criticized.

Pedro Nuno Santos also pointed the finger at "a Government that governs for the minority, for those who need it least", giving as an example the proposal for IRS and also the measure known on the eve of IRS Jovem.

Regarding the IRS, in the specialty phase in parliament, the socialist leader said that he does not know if an understanding will be possible, insisting on criticizing the Government for wanting to benefit the "10% who earn the most", also condemning the "inflexible position" of the social democrats.

The PS leader rejected the idea that this is a negative coalition and when questioned about the fact that the proposals are also being approved thanks to Chega, he stressed that "some voted in favor, one abstained" and warned that the socialists will not stop presenting their proposals because there is a party that can make them viable.

"There would be a problem if the PS negotiated or had an alliance or a coalition with Chega. It is the party that we fight the most", he stressed.
