Despite the increase in the number of votes, Miguel Pita highlighted that the result of the DNA in the autonomous region fell "short of expectations".

The candidate emphasized that the will of the people is sovereign, but stressed that, after suspicions of corruption that led to the fall of Miguel de Albuquerque's Government and the holding of elections on Sunday, "everything remained the same".

"A plane landed in Madeira and supposedly there was a corruption process. And the corruption process, apparently the Madeirans and the Porto-Santans thought that it was fine as it is, it is good, there is no need for any investigation by the Public Prosecutor's Office, or anything like that, and they repeated the same votes of September last year", he said.

"This only shows that the people, the electorate, are really sovereign in their decisions and all we have to do is accept it and hope that in eight months we will be voting again", he added.

The DNA/Madeira obtained 772 votes on Sunday, which represents 0.57% of the total vote, when in 2023 it had obtained, according to the final results, 617 (0.47%).

The PSD today won the early regional legislative elections in Madeira, failing by five deputies to obtain an absolute majority, when all the parishes have been counted, according to provisional official data.

According to information provided by the General Secretariat of the Ministry of Internal Administration (MAI), the social democrats obtained 36.13% of the votes (49,103 votes) and 19 seats in the regional parliament, made up of a total of 47 deputies.

In second place, the PS won 11 seats (21.32% of the total), followed by the JPP, with nine (16.89%), Chega, with four (9.23%), the CDS-PP, with two (3.96%), and the IL (with 2.56%) and the PAN (1.86%), with one deputy each.

The BE and the CDU leave the Legislative Assembly, in relation to the previous composition.

An absolute majority requires 24 seats.
