"These are distinct elections". CDU does not fear "transposition" of results

The CDU decided to make the official start of the electoral campaign for the European elections in Amadora. João Oliveira, head of the party's list to the European Parliament, reiterated that the objective of the campaign is to clarify the population about "everything that is at stake" and that affects "people's lives", for example, regarding "salaries, housing, pensions".
"We will make the electoral campaign a moment of discussion, of deepening, of clarification on all these issues that need to be done in order to have a stronger voice in the European Parliament that guarantees an intervention corresponding to what the people and the country need, without diverting us to lateral and accessory questions, nor will we make the electoral campaign a time of parties and festivities", said the communist, adding that the CDU's objective is to have "a stronger voice in the European Parliament, to strengthen the party from an electoral point of view", without risking "quantitative objectives".
Confronted with the party's result in the Madeira elections, which failed to elect a single deputy, losing its representation in the regional parliament, João Oliveira argued that "there is no possibility of transposition".
"These are distinct elections, the comparison is clearly not possible. Moreover, considering that in Madeira there is even a regional political force that does not even run for the European Parliament elections and that, in that regional context, it was even the political force that grew the most", he recalled, recalling the growth of Juntos pelo Povo (JPP) in Madeira, which went from five to nine deputies, this Sunday, May 26.
It should be recalled that the CDU, as well as the Left Bloc (BE), lost their political representation in the regional parliament, after failing to elect any deputy.
