According to the MAI, early mobility voting, on Sunday, June 2, is allowed to all voters registered in the national territory, at a polling station of their choice, and registration can be made until Thursday, the 30th.

Portugal registered, in the 2019 European elections, the worst abstention rate (68.6%) since it joined the European Union, in contrast to the participation in Europe - around 50%.

To try to reverse this trend - in addition to early voting for the sick, prisoners and abroad, or mobility voting, on the previous Sunday (June 2) - this year there is a new modality, only possible because there are "dematerialized electoral rolls".

Any voter registered in Portugal can vote "without being in the place where they are registered", explained on the 25th to Lusa the spokesperson for the National Elections Commission (CNE), Fernando Anastácio.

"They can choose without any pre-registration condition, for example, they live in Lisbon, are registered in Lisbon, but on the 9th they are in Porto, they can choose to go to any polling station in Porto: show up at the polling station, identify themselves with their citizen's card or with a document that is considered valid for identification purposes and exercise their right to vote", he said.

The elections were scheduled at European level for the period from June 6 to 9.

And this is, according to the CNE spokesperson, "a particularly difficult period for Portugal", as it coincides with "a week that is usually a period of mini-holidays.

Around 373 million European voters are called to vote for the European Parliament between June 6 and 9. In Portugal, the vote is on the 9th.

720 MEPs will be elected, 21 of whom are Portuguese.

A total of 17 parties and coalitions are running in the elections: AD, PS, Chega, IL, BE, CDU, Livre, PAN, ADN, MAS, Ergue-te, Nova Direita, Volt Portugal, RIR, Nós Cidadãos, MPT and PTP.
