"Who ultimately cannot govern without the far right is the PS"

The AD candidate for the European elections accused the PS today of not being able to govern or have a "future in Portuguese democracy" without Chega and argued that it will be worse for the socialists to lose the European elections than the coalition.

In a rally in Évora, Sebastião Bugalho said he wanted to campaign with moderation and "without personal attacks and trailers", but he criticized the PS's stance, after the socialists spent months "demanding that Luís Montenegro not govern with Chega".

"We have a novelty that is a fact: after all, who cannot govern without the far right is the PS, who after all cannot campaign for the European elections without the far right is the PS, who cannot approve anything in parliament without Chega is the PS. Who after all has no future in Portuguese democracy without Chega is the PS", he accused.

Like the PSD president and prime minister, Luís Montenegro, the top candidate acknowledged that it is difficult to win the European elections on June 9.

"I do not guarantee anything, only the maximum work, capacity and hope", he said, but warned that it will be worse for the PS if they lose the elections on the 9th because "they have already lost one, they have already lost two, they have already lost three", referring to the legislative and regional elections of the Azores and Madeira.

On the first day of the campaign, Sebastião Bugalho was in the center of Moura, where he met with relatives who showed him photographs of his mother at a wedding held 48 years ago and saw the building of the school that his grandmother attended.

"I wanted to come here because of this sentimental connection", justified the AD candidate, who contacted several merchants, having even entered a pharmacy, while saying: "it seems to me like something to imitate professor Marcelo (Rebelo de Sousa)".

This was followed by a brief visit to Herdade do Esporão, in Reguengos de Monsaraz, where he admitted to being very excited, despite "only having drunk water", and showed himself confident in the Portuguese people's passion for Europe.

"The Portuguese people have a huge passion for Europe, but the European institutions are not doing as much as they could to be the bridge for this passion", he considered.

What the AD team intends to do in the European Parliament in the next five years is "take advantage of the potential of the European institutions to bring the Portuguese people closer to their European passion", he stressed.
